Priority Actions

  1. Systematic review of mental health service needs assessments and submission of policy recommendationsThrough an environmental scan, the Collaborative identified and compiled a summary of 18 recent DC mental health needs assessments and advocated to the DC Council Committee on Health to fund a comprehensive mental health needs assessment. It also contributed to the development of a behavioral health resource: Principles and Values to Guide Child and Adolescent Public Behavioral Health Care System Transformation in the District of Columbia [childrenslawcenter.org]; a summary of the needs assessment is in the report appendix. In November 2019, we published our 2019-2022 Community Health Improvement Plan which outlines our current priority areas (pages 14-15). We’re also monitoring a policy agenda that advocates for budget resources and workforce development improvements to address access to mental health services and resources.  
  2. Continue foster and in-home care mental health screening and referrals for children
  3. Increase routine mental health screening in pediatric primary care
